some other services
Employee Blog - Mary O’Rourke
I started work with Jewish Care in February 1985 as a care assistant. After six months, someone must have thought I had potential as I was promoted to group leader in charge of five staff!
Around 18 months after that, I successfully applied for an assistant head of home post and finally became head of home in 1993. I am now registered manager of Vi & John Rubens House. During this time I got married and produced two children.
I have seen many changes both in Jewish Care and the care industry in general. Although red tape has increased to an almost unbearable degree, it has brought along with it a much more transparent environment in which the resident is the central character around which all services revolve. Jewish Care has been very supportive of me throughout my career, enabling me to undertake training which has equipped me to carry out my demanding but very rewarding role.
