Malcolm Wulwick

I retired last year after  44 years as a solicitor, and in order to keep me from being under my wife’s feet, my thoughts turned to something completely different.  Since I was a young lad I had wanted to be bus driver, and  decided that now was the time to do so.

I trained become a driver of a double-decker bus, but seeing how precarious some of my training moments were, and not really wanting  to work for London Transport, I decided it was not for me.

I then tried my hand at becoming a driving instructor, only to find my blood pressure rising considerably at the antics of some of my pupils!  My search for a retirement role continued:  I  qualified and worked as a phlebotomist, however,  I felt that my leanings were still  towards driving.  I decided to apply  to be a volunteer Care Bus driver for Jewish Care.

At last I had found the right volunteer role!

I have met such fascinating people and taken them on trips to most interesting places. It is certainly the highlight of my week when I take my little bus out to give a little pleasure to our friends in the residential homes and day centres. It is really a worthwhile occupation and I would recommend it to anyone.
