Volunteer Role: Co-ordinator Volunteer Desk in Amelie House, Maurice and Vivienne Wohl Campus
I would describe my role as a matchmaker (like a ‘shadchan’).
My aim is to make sure volunteers thing they are really getting something out of their volunteering. I can meet people face to face, email them or chat on the phone and try to establish what, when and where they would like to volunteer.
If we meet, we usually complete the paperwork necessary for the role they are interested in. I often suggest that they look at a couple of different opportunities so that get a feel of what is needed.

I appreciate being part of a supportive team and taking advantage of the professional induction and training that Jewish Care offers volunteers.
I started volunteering for Jewish Care 15 years ago, after a career as a social worker and previous volunteering at Childline and the NCT.
I maintain links with staff and volunteers in Jewish Care resources to encourage them to think of new and challenging volunteer vacancies. I really enjoy my role and think it is a good example of getting more than you give. I have a great sense of achievement when I hear people tell me how much they are enjoying their volunteering and I know they all have made a difference to the lives of the clients of Jewish Care.
I enjoy feedback from volunteers about how much they are getting out of their volunteering. It has been a life changing experience for some, who have gone on to new challenges as a result of their volunteering experience. Several volunteers have become paid staff for Jewish Care. Others have moved to new careers, and all have made a difference to the lives of Jewish Care’s clients.
