Jewish Care Volunteer receives top award

John Stanton, a Jewish Care volunteer at Rubens House in Finchley was presented with an award at the Health and Social Care Volunteering Awards ceremony, hosted by Age UK, which were held in central London on Monday 12th December.

The event was part of a one-off awards scheme made possible through funding from the Cabinet Office, as part of the European Year of Volunteering 2011 (EYV).

The awards recognise excellence of volunteers’ contribution to the delivery of health and social care services for older people. The categories of award included Wellbeing, Information and Advice, Home Services, and Digital Inclusion.

Nominated by Christina Brago Nimako, Rubens House social care co-ordinator, John was awarded a certificate of Commendation for Wellbeing. She said: “I an delighted that John was won this commendation.  He has volunteered at Rubens House for 17 years and he is an integral part of our lives, we are deeply indebted to him for all that he does for us.”

John spoke movingly of his affection for his Rubens House ‘family’.  “The residents and staff are all very much part of my family. Over the years I have had the privilege of meeting such wonderful people. ”
